Salt Lake City, Utah is located 40°45′0″N, 111°53′0″W in Salt Lake County. The city is named after the nearby Great Salt Lake.  Salt Lake City serves as the Utah State Capitol and the county seat for Salt Lake County. Brigham Young founded the city in 1847. Each year on July 24, the city and state celebrates "Pioneer Day", the day the Mormon pioneers entered the valley and began its settlement. Salt Lake City is known as the "Crossroads of the West" due to the transcontinental railroad and the westward trek of American history. In 2002, Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics.
